The latest out of Fayetteville is that Arkansas hasn’t made significant headway in finding a permanent replacement for former coach and apparent philanderer Bobby Petrino. Arkansas State coach Gus Malzahn and UAB’s Garrick McGee are a couple of the names frequently suggested by experts as succeeding Petrino.
But the venerable (in his own way) John Daly, who lives in Arkansas and played collegiate golf for the Razorbacks, has his own ideas for who should take charge of his Hogs.
Been trying to help, all is in [athletic director] @JeffLongUA hands & I’ve passed all info to him–if that is the route they want to go I think that Gruden would be the perfect fit! Razorback fans would welcome Gruden with open arms! I know it’s a long shot but I live for Arkansas! #WPS #justgivehimacall
If we can’t get Gruden we need a NFL coach–Petrino raised the bar in Razorback football & I’m hoping @jefflongUA gets us someone strong is my point! I’m here to support our Hogs & the decision that is made! #WPS #HOGforLife
Jon Gruden seems to enjoy his gig with ESPN and has turned down several coaching jobs offers — both college and pro — over the past few years, so this may be wishful thinking on Daly’s part. If it did come true, they better have film crews present for every meeting Gruden has with the quarterbacks. I wouldn’t mind seeing Gruden picking Tyler Wilson’s brain or pressing him on why he didn’t throw to the fullback on “Spider 3 Y Banana.”
